What a Concrete quote needs on it
A measured slab on a known, accessible site quotes as a fixed price. Fix the square footage, thickness, mix and finish, and state the access assumption explicitly — if a pump truck turns out to be needed, that should be a named add rather than an argument.
- Square footage, thickness, mix design and finish — the four things a fixed concrete price rests on
- Mix design named: PSI, fibre or admixtures, and air entrainment in freeze-thaw climates
- Reinforcement by specification — rebar size and spacing, or mesh — since "reinforced" covers both
- Forming and stripping as separate labor from the pour
- The weather the pour date assumes, since a cold or wet pour changes both mix and labor
And what every quote needs
Use a quote when you can see the whole job and control the variables: a like-for-like replacement, a measured area, a repeat job you have priced twenty times.
- A tightly written scope — a fixed price is only safe if the scope is exact
- Explicit exclusions, since anything unlisted is what a dispute will be about
- A change-order clause saying how additional work gets priced and approved
- An expiry date, because a fixed price cannot outlive your material costs

Questions
- How do I price a pour the truck cannot reach?
- As a named line: pump truck, or additional labor for wheelbarrow placement. Access is the largest hidden variable in flatwork pricing. State the access assumption on the quote so that discovering a gate too narrow for a chute is a priced change rather than a loss you absorb on the day.
- What makes a concrete job quotable at a fixed price?
- A measured slab on a known, accessible site. Fix the square footage, thickness, mix and finish, and state the access assumption explicitly. Where the subgrade is unknown or the site has drainage questions, that belongs on an estimate — the machine will tell you things the walkthrough did not.
- Should a quote specify the mix design?
- Yes, by PSI and admixture. "Concrete" is not a specification: a 3,000 PSI mix and a 4,000 PSI fibre-reinforced air-entrained mix cost differently and perform differently, and in a freeze-thaw climate the difference shows up in year three. Naming it is also how a customer sees that the cheaper bid is not the same slab.
