What a Roofing invoice needs on it

A roofing invoice should state the product installed and both warranty terms, because it is the document the homeowner needs to register a manufacturer warranty and the one an insurer will ask for after the next storm. Note the actual decking sheets used against the allowance so the final number reconciles line by line.

• The product actually installed, by name, for the manufacturer warranty registration
• Tear-off layers actually removed, where it differed from the count you quoted
• Both warranty terms and their start date, since this is the document an insurer asks for after a storm
• Permit and final inspection if the jurisdiction required one
• Deposit credited, balance due, and when payment is expected

Send it the day the work is finished. Invoices sent within 24 hours get paid materially faster than ones that go out at the end of the month.

• A due date, not just terms — "Net 14" means less to a homeowner than a date
• Any deposit already paid, credited on the page so the balance is unarguable

Reconcile it line by line: sheets included, sheets used, the rate, the difference. Roofing is the trade where the final number most often differs from the quoted one, and an invoice that shows the arithmetic turns that into a settled account instead of a phone call.

Why does the product name matter on a roofing invoice?

Because the homeowner needs it to register the manufacturer warranty, and because it is the document an insurer will ask for after the next storm. An invoice that says "architectural shingles" is worth less to them than one naming the product and the colour.

When should a roofer invoice — at completion or after final inspection?

At completion, with the inspection noted if one is pending. The roof is on and the customer is dry; the paperwork following behind should not hold up payment for finished work. State the balance and your terms, and record the warranty start date while you are there.
