What a Handyman quote needs on it
Quote single defined jobs — mount the TV, replace the six outlets, rehang the gate. Fixed prices sell well for small work because the customer wants to know the number before they let you start. Keep the minimum visible so a one-item quote does not look inflated.
- What the price assumes you will find, and that anything else is quoted before you continue
- Whether the customer supplies the parts, and what happens if the part turns out wrong
- Whether materials are picked up by you and how they are billed — at cost, or with markup stated
- Trip or travel charge if you have one, priced rather than hidden in the rate
- That anything found behind the fitting is quoted before you continue
And what every quote needs
Use a quote when you can see the whole job and control the variables: a like-for-like replacement, a measured area, a repeat job you have priced twenty times.
- A tightly written scope — a fixed price is only safe if the scope is exact
- Explicit exclusions, since anything unlisted is what a dispute will be about
- A change-order clause saying how additional work gets priced and approved
- An expiry date, because a fixed price cannot outlive your material costs

- Either mark them up or charge a pickup fee, and print which. Fetching parts is unpaid time otherwise. Customers accept a stated markup or a flat trip charge without complaint; what they object to is discovering an unexplained difference between the store receipt and your invoice.
